Births

Mazel Tov!  Temple Beth Shalom welcomes you and your baby.  You may arrange for your child to receive her or his Hebrew name and blessings during an Erev Shabbat Service.  Please contact Rabbi Shinder in order to pick an appropriate date and/or guidance in selecting an appropriate Hebrew name.  It is our joy to help you perform this Mitzvah whether you are a member or not.

Weddings

Congratulations!  Rabbi Shinder is available to discuss future plans for your upcoming nuptials.  Please call the synagogue to discuss the specifics of your special day with the Rabbi.

Bar/Bat Mitzvahs
Yarzeits

With the hustle and bustle of our daily lives it is sometimes difficult for us to remember the yahrzeits (anniversary of passing) of our loved ones. When we miss the yahrzeit of a loved one it can be especially painful. In an effort to help our community members remember all of the loved ones who have passed from their lives, we are updating our records. A yahrzeit reminder letter will be sent to you in advance of the yahrzeit dates you specify.

Mourners often light a yahrzeit candle which burns from sunset on the previous evening to sunset on the day of yahrzeit. If you need a candle, please call the TBS office. If you have any questions about Jewish ways of mourning, feel free to contact Rabbi Shinder. A brief pamphlet is available to guide you through the lighting.

You are encouraged to join us for Shabbat services on the Friday evening preceding the yahrzeit. The names of the departed will be read from the pulpit prior to the recitation of the Kaddish. Even if you believe we have the correct information in our records, please fill out the form below. Indicate whether you prefer to observe the yahrzeit on the Hebrew or English date. If you would like to observe the Hebrew date, but do not know when that is, we can determine it from the English date (please include the year).

Illness

Please contact the Temple Office if a member of your family is ill.  When possible, the Rabbi is available to visit and provide support both at home or in a healthcare facility.  Prayers for healing (Mi Shebeirach) are offered on Shabbat and Holidays, please let us know if you would like us to add a name to that list to be read aloud during the service.

Bereavement

Please contact the Temple Office to inform us of the passing of a loved one.  Rabbi Shinder is available to officiate at funerals for members of Temple Beth Shalom and their immediate family members.  Shivah services are also conducted by the Rabbi as well as knowledgeable congregants.

Temple Beth Shalom has its own cemetery on Spanktown Road in Florida, NY.  It is available to members and non-members alike.  In addition, there is an Interfaith section.
