About Us

In 1947, a group of Jewish men and women living in southern Orange County formed an alliance and declared that there needed to be an organized and sustained Jewish presence within their community. From that small gathering of peers, the Florida Hebrew Community Center was created, today known as Temple Beth Shalom.

As a result, Temple Beth Shalom possesses a rich history and ever-evolving traditions. In the 1960s the congregation decided to affiliate with the Conservative Movement and joined Unired Synagogues of America. As the composition of the membership changed, they decided that an affiliation with the Reform Movement would best serve the community. In 1974, the congregation joined the Union for Reform Judaism.

The Temple Beth Shalom of today still serves as a House of Worship, a House of Study, and a House of Gathrering while offering a unique blend of Jewish culture and social action to its members. We are welcoming to all. Whether you are a Jew by birth, by choice, or a part of an interfaith family, you will be a welcomed member of our family. We offer a connection to our shared Jewish heritage and are truly a Congregational Family.
